How to Read a Stone Island ART Number

Every Stone Island piece has an ART number on the wash label. Most people ignore it, but it’s the fastest way to identify a piece.

If you know how to read it, you can instantly determine the season, year and garment type.

We include the ART number on every item we sell. Here’s how to read it.

Where to Find It

Inside the garment, on the wash label. Sometimes prefixed with "ART". It may also appear on the original swing tag if still attached.

This is not the same as Certilogo, which is used strictly for authentication.

The Classic Format (Pre-2025)

The first five digits tell you everything.

Digits 1-2 — Season and Year

Even numbers indicate Spring/Summer. Odd numbers indicate Autumn/Winter. The codes increase sequentially.

58 SS 2013 59 AW 2013
60 SS 2014 61 AW 2014
62 SS 2015 63 AW 2015
64 SS 2016 65 AW 2016
66 SS 2017 67 AW 2017
68 SS 2018 69 AW 2018

After Digit 5

These digits refer to fabric and treatment codes. Stone Island does not publish these and they vary per season. For exact identification, use the full ART number on artchecker.co.uk.

K-Series (2025+)

Since SS2025, Stone Island uses a new prefix: K1S. This reflects the Moncler Group integration. Brand line and garment type codes remain unchanged after the prefix.

Why It Matters Secondhand

The ART number reveals details many sellers overlook. A jacket listed as “recent” with code 71? That’s AW2019. Two pieces that look identical in photos can have completely different ART numbers and fabrics.

It also acts as a quick authenticity check. If the format doesn’t match the structure above, something is likely off. For full verification, always use Certilogo.

How We Use Them

Every Gorilla Island listing includes the ART number, verified against the wash label. If we can’t verify it, we don’t list it. Certilogo codes are included where available (typically from SS2014 onward).

Quick Decode

  1. Check the wash label and locate the ART number
  2. Digits 1-2 — determine season and year (even = SS, odd = AW)
  3. Digits 3-4 — identify the brand line (15 = mainline)
  4. Digit 5 — defines the garment type
  5. Use the full ART number for exact lookup on artchecker.co.uk
