Buying Stone Island Second Hand: What to Check and What to Pay

Gorilla browsing a rail of pre-owned Stone Island jackets in an archive

Quick answer: buying Stone Island second hand gets you the same jacket for a fraction of the retail price, but only if you check three things: authenticity (ART number, labels, badge, Certilogo), condition (badge present, no fading, coating intact) and fit (compare measurements, not just the label size). Buy from a seller who shows the inside labels and real measurements, and who stands behind the piece.

Most of the Stone Island in our own wardrobes was bought second hand. Retail prices keep going up, and the best pieces from past seasons are only available pre-owned anyway. But second hand is also where the fakes, the worn out pieces and the wrong sizes are. This guide shows how we look at a piece before we buy it, so you can do the same.

Why buy Stone Island second hand

  • Price: a well kept piece from a few seasons ago often costs half of retail or less.
  • Choice: fabrics and colourways from past seasons, archive pieces and limited editions that are no longer in stores.
  • Quality holds up: Stone Island is made to last. A good jacket from 2010 still does its job.
  • Value: the brand holds its value well, so you can often sell a piece on without losing much.

Check 1: is it real?

Ask for, or look for, clear photos of:

  • the inside labels with the ART number, and check that the season matches what the seller claims
  • the badge, front and back, and the buttons
  • the Certilogo tag on pieces from roughly 2014 onwards
  • zips, stitching and fabric close up

A seller who will not show the inside labels is a reason to walk away. Our step by step guide: how to authenticate Stone Island.

Check 2: what condition is it really in?

Look at Why it matters
Badge present A missing badge lowers value considerably
Colour and fading Garment dyed pieces fade with washing and sun. Compare the colour in daylight with the inside of the garment
Coatings Rubber coated fabrics can crack or get sticky when they have been stored badly
Cuffs, collar and hem First places to show wear
Zips and poppers Should run smoothly and close properly
Smell and pilling Hard to see in photos, so ask

At Gorilla Island we describe condition as brand new with tags or on a scale from 10 out of 10 down, and we photograph the piece itself, not a stock image.

Check 3: will it fit?

The size on the label says less than you think, because the cut of Stone Island has changed over the decades. Ask for pit to pit and length measurements and compare them with a jacket that fits you well. Our Stone Island sizing guide explains how.

What should you pay?

Prices depend on season, fabric, condition and demand. To give you an idea, this is where most pieces in our own shop sit:

Category Typical pre-owned range
T-shirts and polos 50 to 100 euro
Swim shorts and shorts 60 to 150 euro
Sweatshirts, hoodies and knitwear 70 to 400 euro
Trousers and cargos 80 to 250 euro
Overshirts 150 to 360 euro
Bodywarmers 230 to 600 euro
Jackets and down jackets 170 to 750 euro

Brand new with tags, recent seasons and special fabrics sit at the top of each range. Older seasons and visible wear sit at the bottom. A price far below these ranges for a recent piece in perfect condition is usually too good to be true.

Where to buy

Marketplaces like Vinted and eBay have the widest choice and the most risk. You do the checking yourself and returns are often difficult. A specialised reseller costs a bit more but does the checking for you and gives you a return option.

At Gorilla Island every piece is checked by hand before it goes online, with the ART number, measurements and real photos in every listing. Orders ship within one business day and you can return within 14 days.

Selling your own pieces

Buying second hand also means you can sell on. Keep the badge, the tags and, if you still have it, the receipt. We buy Stone Island and C.P. Company too. See sell to Gorilla Island. Looking for a specific piece? Try our personal sourcing.

FAQ

Is it safe to buy Stone Island second hand?

Yes, if you check the labels, ART number, badge and Certilogo, or buy from a seller who does that for you and offers returns.

Does Stone Island hold its value?

Better than most fashion brands. Popular jackets and special fabrics in good condition sell on well.

Is a piece without Certilogo fake?

No. Certilogo was introduced around 2014, so older pieces do not have it. Check the ART number and labels instead.
